Description
Ivan Tolstoi was born 1958 in Leningrad. He graduated Leningrad State University, faculty of Russian Language and Literature and taught émigré literature at St.Petersburg University, Poligraphical Institute, Russian Christian Humanitarian Institute et al. Editor at Zvezda Monthly. He contributed to Russkaia Mysl’ , Zvezda, Novoe Russkoe Slovo, Volga, Novyj Mir, et al. In 1992-1993 he worked as an art director at the new Grzhebine Publishing house; since 1995 - editor and broadcaster at Radio Liberty (beg. 1995).

Research interests in samizdat area are connected with the history of tamizdat, Russian émigré contribution to the Cold War, history of the Radio Liberty, and oral émigré history.

Professional activities in samizdat area: He regularly publishes and do radio programs on samizdat and tamizdat writers, documents, and history. Also interviews émigré activists around the world.
