Description
Vladimir Tolz finished graduate studies at the Historical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and worked at the Central State Archives of the Ancient Acts and other Moscow scholarly institutions. Helped collecting data for the samizdat Chronicle of Current Events. Published, with I, Kovalyov and A. Smirnov, the "V-Information Bulletin" which in the early 80-s was the main source of information about Human Rights violations in the USSR, later publicized in the West and by the samizdat. In the fall of 1983, charged by the KGB with producing and spreading anti-Soviet materials, was expelled from the USSR. Since 1983 cooperated with the Research Division, later with the Russian Service of RFE-RL. He is the author of multimedia-project "20-th congress of the CPSU" (2001)
Research interests in samizdat area: Connection of Samizdat and Tamizdat, Samizdat and the International Broadcasting, Samizdat and the Soviet elite, Samizdat and national perception of the world.
Professional activities in samizdat area: Correspondent of "Chronicle of Current Events", Editor of "V-Information Bulletin", author of research studies and radio publications ?fn samizdat.
